About Temple

ganesh25Nighoj (Marathi: निघोज), is a village in Ahmednagar DistrictMaharashtraIndia. Nighoj is  about 90 kilometres away from Pune and is famous for the naturally created potholes on the riverbed of river Kukadi.
The population of Nighoj is more than 10,000 approximately and is one of the biggest village on State Highway-51 that is SH-51(Kalyan-Shirur). Experts from all over the world come here every year to study the phenomenon of their formation. It is said that many years ago there was a huge amount of rainfall in this area and the River Ghod (Ghodnadi) flowed from the gorge-like structure with such force that erosion of the rocks took place and resulted in the formation of these potholes.
Summers gives you very few options to make a trip and enjoy. Apart from going to some cold place and beating the heat, there are places which could only be experienced in summers. Nighoj is one such place. In summers there no much flow of water, the riverbed of Kukdi is exposed and you get to see asia’s largest naturally created gigantic potholes, kunda (कुंड) in Marathi and that’s how they are known to the villagers.
It is an archeological site recorded in the Guinness Book of World records. This is a natural phenomenon where the pebbles that are carried by the river get locked in the cracks developed in the basalt rock riverbed. These pebbles, which rotate due to the water current, have formed pot shaped cavities in the basalt rock over the hundreds of years
